The global epidemic of Diabesity

With the increasing prevalence of type 2 diabetes coupled with the ever growing population of people who are classified as being obese, the term “Diabesity” has been coined. This term has now become recognized world wide as these two conditions are inextricably linked in terms of pathophysiology and clinical management.

The Yorkshire Diabesity group held their first regional conference recently; this was a well-attended event despite the icy roads leading to the venue. The group state that their aim is to share knowledge of the integrated management of the condition, and topics which were covered at the conference included managing diabesity from a nursing perspective, diabesity in primary care and designer drugs for the condition.
