Suitable For

This course is aimed at anyone involved in the monitoring or dosing of anticoagulation medication, such as GPs, Practice Nurses, & Pharmacists. No prior qualifications are needed, and no mentor is required.

Outline Content

There are five oral anticoagulants licensed for use in the UK: warfarin, apixaban, dabigatran, edoxaban and rivaroxaban. Although apixaban, dabigatran, edoxaban and rivaroxaban do not require regular international normalized ratio (INR) monitoring, regular follow up and monitoring is still required.  This 1 day course will increase your awareness and understanding of the different anticoagulation medications and will teach you how to monitor their dosage especially those patients on DOACS.  You will learn about the different doses of each DOAC and who needs anticoagulation medication.  It will also look at the importance and setting up a robust recall system as well as why the dose may need to be changed.
