Course Delivery & Duration
The Certificate in Spirometry training course consists of two workshop days with learning materials.
GP, Nurse, Registered Healthcare Practitioners, Health Care Assistant
This course will prepare you for the steps necessary to get onto the ARTP Full or Foundation Registers. Application for assessment by the ARTP is the responsibility of the student and will not be undertaken by PCTC at this time.
It is recommended that those who perform spirometry should complete the ICST/ARTP full certificate in spirometry or the ICST/ARTP foundation certificate in spirometry. Our Spirometry course will prepare you for these certificates.
Spirometry is only useful as a screening technique where uniformity and quality of practice exist. Without a thorough understanding of the principles involved, the methodology, the effects of the disease on lung function and the interpretation of results, it is difficult for practitioners to be confident and competent in practice. Our Spirometry training course will give you this understanding.
- To understand how spirometry is performed
- What spirometry is and why we need it
- How to maintain your spirometry machine
- Basic spirometry interpretation and identify abnormal spirometry recordings
- To problem solve
Once you have completed the two day training, you can then register for the accredited Full or Foundation Certificates with the Institute of Clincal Science & Technology, in partnership with the ARTP, which will both require a portfolio of evidence and a practical and oral assessment.
Please note that if you are eligible for a funded place on this course, the funding will not extend to your registration with the ICST/ARTP.
