This women's health training course uses our proven and popular combination of self study and face to face workshops. Six months of self-directed study is facilitated by a distance learning pack and concludes with two days of compulsory workshops. Attendance at a mid-course study session is optional.

This six month women's health training course is designed to further develop practitioners with the knowledge and skills to facilitate the holistic management of women’s health issues in primary care. The module focuses on the management of female adult life, sexual health, contraception, breast and cervical screening, continence and menopause and the organisation and management of the services available to support this. Emphasis is placed on the importance of the health needs of the individual, health promotion and empowerment of the woman and on multi-professional collaboration.

- Demonstrate a comprehensive and detailed knowledge of the common pathophysiologies of the female reproductive system.
- Synthesise and critically appraise the principles underpinning the approaches to assessment and management of different aspects of women’s health.
- Demonstrate a comprehensive and detailed knowledge of women's health issues including sexual health, contraception, screening, continence and the menopause.
- Synthesise, appraise and evaluate evidence from a range of sources to underpin the care and management of women's health.
- Demonstrate intellectual flexibility in the application of relevant theory to women’s health care.
- Identify women at risk of female related disorders.
- Develop and evaluate preventative care strategies through the management of a well woman clinic.
- Ensure all interventions are underpinned by the ethical and legal frameworks which support professional practice.
- Plan, manage and evaluate an appropriate prescription of care according to individual women’s health needs.
- Adopt a broad ranging and flexible approach to self directed study in order to organise own work schedule and meet required deadlines.

This is in two parts:
1. A 3,000 word assignment that analyses and evaluates the management of one area of women’s health.
This may be on one specific area of health such as cervical screening or a patient focussed case study. If selecting a patient for the case study consent must be obtained in accordance with the SOHSC policy. The learning outcomes addressed are KU 2, CI 1 and 2, PP 1 - 4, KT 1 - 2. The assignment in submitted one month after attending the two-day workshop.
2. Unseen Examination
A one hour unseen examination comprising of True/False statements based on the content of the module. The pass mark is 80%. The examination takes place on the afternoon of the second day of the two-day workshop. The learning outcomes addressed are KU 1 and 3, PP 1.
